The Coyne Family Foundation has allowed us to impact at least 30 students a year since 1994. That’s a significant number of lives.

FOUNDATION GRANT GUIDELINES

Funding Priorities

The Foundation’s overall area of focus is to support and enable young people from underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds to envision a career path in the field of commercial art.

Some examples of programs the Foundation is interested in funding are:

  • Scholarships for students to study graphic design, advertising, photography and illustration

  • Mentoring programs for students interested in visual communications

  • Programs that assist high school students in developing portfolios to qualify for admission to art school

  • Programs and convenings that encourage career paths in visual communications

  • The above list is not exhaustive, but is intended to provide a general understanding of our areas of interest before applying.

Eligibility

  • The following types of organizations based within the United States are eligible to receive a grant:

  • Public charities that are tax-exempt under IRS 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) or (2)

  • Government agencies

  • Federally-recognized Indian Tribal governments treated as a state under IRS section 7871

  • We are unable to fund individuals, fiscally-sponsored projects, for-profit businesses, private foundations or organizations that are exempt under IRS classifications other than 501(c)(3).

Types of Grant Support

Because the Foundation’s funding interests have a specific focus, the majority of grants will be for project support. Please note that we do not provide funding for buildings/construction, organizational debt relief or general art programs, such as elementary school art classes.

Grant Sizes

Grants will generally range between $20,000 and $60,000.

Grant Length

All grants will be for one year.

Reporting Requirements

Grant recipients will be asked to submit a brief report in the year following their grant award that outlines how the grant funds were spent/utilized, any challenges or opportunities they may have encountered, and potential funding needs they may have for the coming year.

How to Apply

The Foundation primarily makes grants to organizations by invitation. However, organizations that feel they may be a good fit with our funding priorities may submit a brief inquiry on the form at the right. Be sure to include the name of your organization, location, the purpose of your grant request, the amount requested, the total project cost, and the amount of your organization’s operating budget.

Application Deadlines

Invited organizations will generally hear from us during the summer and will be asked to apply (and submit a report on the previous year’s grant, if applicable) by October 1.

Organizations that have not previously applied for funding should submit their grant inquiry no later than September 1.

Funding Decisions

Decisions on grant applications will generally be made in late November/early December, with payment following shortly after notification.

If you think your organization would be a good fit with our funding goals, please carefully read the foundation grant guidelines before completing the form below.
